The districts students actually live in — with what each is like.
Complexul Studențesc is Timișoara's student quarter — a compact, lively district of dorms, cafés, gyms and cheap eats wedged between the UVT and UPT campuses and the Bega river. It's the first place most students look, so apartments here go fast.
Cetate is Timișoara's historic centre — the pedestrian squares Piața Victoriei and Piața Unirii, terraces, theatres and the opera. Living here puts UVT, UMFT and UPT all within a walk or a couple of tram stops, at a premium price for the location.
Elisabetin is a quiet, leafy residential neighbourhood of villas and low blocks just south of the centre, popular with medical students because it's an easy walk or short tram ride to UMFT. Calmer than the student complex, but still central.
The Bălcescu area sits right around UMFT and Piața Bălcescu, making it a favourite for medical and pharmacy students who want to roll out of bed and into a lecture. Central, well-connected and full of small shops.
Iosefin is one of Timișoara's oldest quarters, a photogenic riverside neighbourhood next to the Gara de Nord train station and a short ride from the centre and UMFT. It's increasingly hip, with cafés and renovated Secession buildings, and rents are gentler than the very centre.
Circumvalațiunii is a practical residential belt just north of the Complexul Studențesc, with big supermarkets, the Iulius Town mall nearby and quick tram links. A sensible pick for students who want space and value a short hop to campus.
The Girocului district runs south of the centre along Calea Girocului, a residential area of blocks and newer developments with fast tram access to the universities. Popular for its balance of price, space and connectivity.
Lipovei is a calm northern residential district near the Politehnica halls and the Aradului axis, well connected by tram. A quieter, affordable base that still gets you to campus quickly.
The Aradului corridor stretches north along Calea Aradului, past Iulius Town and towards the USAMVBT life-sciences campus. Modern blocks, malls and offices make it convenient for students who want new-build comfort.
Dumbrăvița is Timișoara's fast-growing northern suburb, full of new apartment blocks and green space. It's a comfortable, modern option for students who don't mind a short commute for a newer place at a fair price.
The Take Ionescu boulevard links the centre with the eastern districts, lined with apartment blocks and offices and served by frequent trams. A central-adjacent option with quick access to UMFT and the core.
The Modern district, around Piața Traian and the Badea Cârțan market, is a characterful central-east neighbourhood with a real local feel, fresh-produce markets and easy tram links to the universities.
